Overview
Everything that surrounds us is design. Designed objects, spaces and processes shape our lives. The course provides the knowledge to understand and analyse our broad environment and to understand the phenomena of contemporary culture and society.
Design Culture studies gives equal weight to theoretical and practical knowledge. Students will study art and design history and theory, art criticism, as well as gain introductory practical knowledge of artistic and design work through object and image making courses. The course also offers the opportunity to learn about the benefits and challenges of teamwork, working with student artists from other departments on collaborative projects. Completing the course also prepares our students for independent academic research. In addition to the university campuses, teaching takes place through visits to art venues, galleries, design studios and professional excursions.
Students will acquire skills in the understanding and analysis of cultural phenomena. They can apply to positions in design and art organisations, projects and events, as well as in design and art-related companies, and they can also work as writers for design magazines and as independent researchers. With this BA diploma students can also continue their studies at METU’s MA major Art and Design Management.
